AAIDD Announces Amy Hewitt as the Next Editor of IDD

Silver Spring, MD (January 10, 2022)

The American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) is extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Amy S. Hewitt, PhD, FAAIDD, to a 4-year term as the next Editor of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), the Association’s multidisciplinary peer-reviewed journal of policy, practices, and perspectives. She succeeds Dr. James Thompson as Editor of this journal.

At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Hewitt is a Professor and Director of the Institute on Community Integration, the Research & Training Center on Community Living, and the MNLEND. She is a Fellow and past president of the Board of Directors of AAIDD (2014-2015), served with Dr. Thompson as an Associate Editor of IDD, and as Interim Editor of IDD from July 2022 through January 2023.

Dr. Hewitt remarked,

The dissemination of timely, significant, and highly relevant research that influences policy, practice, and perspectives in the IDD field is critical. Peer-reviewed journal articles continue to be an important resource for information on issues brought to legislative and litigation processes. Additionally, they serve to provide  professional development to interdisciplinary professionals who plan, create, and deliver various supports and services to individuals with IDD. This journal has a long history, a strong reputation, and a respectable Impact Factor, and I look forward to ensuring that the journal is the best that it can be.

As a journal with an applied focus, IDD provides a forum for the dissemination of rigorously reviewed, actionable information that is relevant to emerging policies, innovative practices, and transformative concepts.
