PCNTV: On the Issues Discussion – Intellectual Disability Community Crisis

Key points in the program:
– Local community programs are facing their worst crisis in 60 years
– Programs are unable to recruit, hire and retain front line workers, Direct Support Professionals due to the state’s setting of poverty wages for DSPs
– The state’s favoring of its own employees with 30% higher wages from the Medicaid fund 
– Turnover rates in community programs averaging nearly 40% in community programs, due to the state’s funding formula, favoring state employees, as compared to 17% much lower turnover at state-operated programs.

The Provider Alliance recommendation for Governor Wolf and the state to practice Equal Pay for Equal Work.
